The Big Game: Healthy World Cup Drinks and Snacks

The Big Game: Healthy World Cup Drinks and Snacks

Whether it’s a chance-in-a-lifetime, live World Cup game or late-night Saturday TV highlights, the drinks and snacks to go with watching football – or any other sport you’re into – don’t have to be unhealthy ones. To mark England’s epic semi-final with Croatia on 11 July, World Cancer Research Fund Health Information Manager Sharon Hui has chosen some healthy treats to keep your strength up whilst you cheer your team on and – hopefully – help you celebrate.

For snacks, this Tortilla Pizza can be made in just 20 minutes before kick-off: it’s lower calorie than bought pizza, and you can choose your own toppings!

Or these Vegetable Fajitas are loaded up with exciting flavours. If you need to boost your energy intake, you could use sour cream instead of yoghurt. Or, if watching your weight, give the guacamole a miss and add extra veggies instead.

For healthy dips, why not try this Roasted Red Pepper Houmous or this Butter Bean and Almond Dip – and you can take any leftovers to work the next day, if you’ve been too busy celebrating to make yourself a lunch!

And for a half-time treat, how about these Banana’n’Berry Ice Lollies – you can always swap the yoghurt in them for dairy free, soya yoghurt.

If you like a drink in your hand as you watch, how about this Virgin Sangria – it’s a great summer refresher and will get you into the party mood.

Meanwhile, this ginger beer-based Ginger Zinger will pep you up – but I think it’s far too nice to spray all over the place!

But if you’re celebrating, instead of champagne, why not try this Berry Sparkle, which looks and tastes just as good, with its hint of elderflower.

And while you're watching why not get up and move around as you're shouting the team on!

Because maybe, just maybe, #ItsComingHome ...

Don't forget, there's loads of lovely Newcastle Can recipes from Hugh here too. Share your images with us online using #NewcastleCan.
