MAN v FAT: The league where losers win comes to Newcastle!
"When I wanted to lose weight, I was dismayed to find that everything out there was aimed squarely at women. I struggled precisely because all the groups and products assumed that if I wanted to lose weight, I must be a woman.
Not at all - what I wanted was information and support that was relevant to me and it was mindboggling that there wasn’t something out there to help men lose weight. The key was that I wanted to lose weight, not get ‘ripped’ like the cover stars on men’s fitness magazines. I was a normal bloke, part of the 67% of overweight and obese men in the UK and it baffled me that there wasn’t something aimed at us. Where was the help for men who just wanted to lose weight and get active, not suddenly get a six pack in a week?
I knew the importance of keeping active. But I found that the fitness industry doesn’t really want to help you if you’re a man with a BMI of 34 and you don’t know where to begin! Instead it told me that I needed to workout hard in order to get ripped, that I needed to spend all my free time at the gym. I didn’t have the time or interest for that and it’s intimidating for someone who last exercised doing PE at school. I wanted getting active to be fun and to be something I looked forward to doing and so that's why I created MAN V FAT Football.
MAN v FAT Football is for anyone of any fitness level. If you want to lose weight, get active and have a laugh while doing it then you can’t go wrong with one of our football leagues. I’m really proud to say that we’ve helped men all over the country lose nearly 40 tons since launching our first league just over a year ago and we’re going from strength to strength.
We are also delighted to announce that following funding from Sport England we are now able to bring MAN v FAT Football leagues to Newcastle. If you fancy becoming a player you can join at www.manvfatfootball.com/newcastle.
My life has definitely changed for the better since I started getting active. I lost weight but it’s not just been about the number on the scale, it’s all about how much better I feel - I never thought I’d be running around a pitch playing football every week but I do and it feels awesome."
